From the late 16th to the middle of the 17th century, a major Renaissance fort was built in Koprivnica, which became the main logistical base for defense of a wider area in northwestern Croatia. As a model of similar Renaissance fortresses, the Koprivnica lowland fortifications were got the form of an irregular star with deep trenches and high earthen ramparts with oak palisades. Special earthen, wide forts of bastions were built in each corner of the fortification. Today's remnants of earthen ramparts represent a cultural heritage and a unique place for organizing the Renaissance Festival. Within Koprivnica fortress is the city armory (Zeughaus) from 1714., which was restored in 2015. It was the entrance for the medieval fortress. Throughout its history the baroque building was a place of different purposes. Except as a storage room it served as a school, a place for musical rehearsal and the archives. Recently the building is used for the needs of the Renaissance Festival.
